Quick answer
There is not enough released-build data to call one weapon or altar combination the best. Start with a role, then choose the equipment and boon that solves that role's next risk.
Three useful starting roles
Safe extractor
Prioritize recovery, defense and a route to the next teleport. This is the strongest learning style because a banked haul teaches more than a lost one.
Deep-run fighter
Use a reliable weapon, spare healing and a positive altar boon before entering a new floor. Treat special rooms as optional tests, not mandatory content.
Merchant builder
Craft enough gear to survive, then spend the remaining materials on shop fixtures and stock. Watch comfort, demand, prestige and decoration effects in purchase history before committing to a layout.
Altar rule
The official description supports altars that can radically change a playstyle, including size changes, Midas-style conversion and manic/depressed combat states. A stronger boon with a downside is a build choice only when its downside is understood; otherwise choose the positive option and bank the run.
What would prove a meta build?
A trustworthy build guide needs the patch, weapon stats, altar effect, enemy test, survival outcome and a repeatable route. Achievement kill thresholds alone cannot prove a weapon is stronger.
Sources and scope
The official store page confirms the altar-driven build potential. Specific βbest buildβ recommendations are intentionally deferred until released-build evidence exists.
