Fell & Sell Dungeon Guide: Loot, Risk, Retreats and Altars

How to decide when to extract, how floor progression changes risk, and what the launch evidence says about altars, traps and special rooms.

Quick answer

Push deeper only when your health, recovery items, equipment and route knowledge make the next floor worth the unbanked-loot risk. Extract when the current haul already funds a useful upgrade. A safe teleport is progress; a death before it erases the run's unsecured inventory.

The risk ladder

SituationRecommended decision
Low health or no recoveryTake the next teleport home
New recipe or useful material, safe route backBank the haul before experimenting
Full health, spare healing and familiar enemiesConsider one more floor
Special room or altar with unknown downsidePrepare first; it is optional, not a required clear

What to break and collect

The gameplay notes repeatedly show breakable dungeon objects producing basic materials such as wood, stone, iron and health potions. Attack anything that visibly reacts, but do not turn a low-health run into a completion challenge. Chests can scatter contents, so collect the room before moving on.

Altars and prayers

The official store description says dungeon altars can radically change a playstyle. Launch examples include shrinking to dodge large attacks, turning heavy items into gold with a Midas effect, and shifting between manic and depressed combat states. Treat a boon as a run modifier, not a permanent upgrade: choose the positive option when learning, and only accept a stronger downside option when the run can absorb it.

Traps and special rooms

The gameplay transcript records floor-two traps and optional high-difficulty special rooms. Look at the floor before committing, keep an escape line, and do not enter a special room just because the door is visible. Their value is the reward after a prepared fightβ€”not the fact that the room exists.

Extraction checklist

  • Health is enough for the route to the next teleport.
  • The haul contains a recipe, upgrade material or sale item worth protecting.
  • At least one recovery option remains.
  • You know whether the next altar is a boon or a trade-off.
  • You have decided what will be stored when you return.

Sources and scope

The official Steam description confirms deeper rarer loot, loss of unbanked loot on death and altar-driven build changes. The Steam Community Guides hub is the live player-reference index. Traps, special rooms and the floor-one/floor-two sequence are community gameplay evidence from Fell & Sell.md; exact floor layouts and drop rates are not established.
